Free e-signature plans compared

Many e-signature tools offer a free plan. Most let you sign for free; a few let you send a handful of documents a month without paying. Here is what each one’s free plan lets you send, from their own pages.

Facts last checked

Refrendo is in a closed beta. Beta organisations use it free.

What to compare besides the number

Where Refrendo fits

Refrendo’s free plan isn’t the biggest on this list. It is 3 requests a month, up to 2 people on each, and it includes what the paid plans do on every request: approve, reject or ask for changes before anyone signs, the audit trail and the completion certificate. Everyone who signs is emailed a link to download the final PDF and the certificate. Refrendo is in a closed beta, so for now you request an invite to use it. What the free plan includes.

Questions

Which e-signature tool has the most generous free plan?

By documents sent, PandaDoc and Zoho Sign each allow five a month on their free plans, Dropbox Sign, SignWell and Refrendo three, and Adobe two every 30 days. DocuSign has no free plan for sending. Also check how many people each document can go to and what else the plan leaves out.

Is there a completely free e-signature tool with no limits?

Not among the established products. The free plans all cap how many documents you can send, and paid plans lift it. Signing a document someone sends you is free everywhere.

Do the people I send to need to pay or sign up?

On all of these, no. Signers don’t pay, and on most of them they don’t need an account either.

Are documents signed on a free plan legally valid?

Whether you paid for the tool makes no difference in law. What the Electronic Transactions Acts look at is that the method identifies the person and shows their intention, and that the other party consents to signing electronically.

Join the closed beta

Refrendo is invitation-only for now. Organisations in the beta send free for as long as it runs.
